Patrick Loughrey joined Goldsmiths as Warden in April 2010. The Warden (equivalent to the more familiar “Vice-Chancellor”) provides academic and administrative leadership for the University. He leads the Senior Management Team which considers major policy issues and oversees the submission of business to Council, Academic Board and Finance and Resources Committee.
Priorto joining Goldsmiths in 2010, Patrick's previous post was the Director ofBBC Nations and Regions. He had overall responsi- bility for the BBC's television, radio and online programmes and services in Scotland, Wales, Northern lreland and the 12 English regions. Heled more than 6,500 staff based in more than 50 cen- tres across the Uk.
Originallyfrom County Donegal, lreland, he studied at the Univer- sityofUlster (BA Hons Contemporary History), The Queen's Uni- versity of Belfast (MA History) and Trent University, Ontario (Doc- toralResearch Fellowship). He received the University ofUlster's Distinguished Graduate Award in 1997 and was awarded an Hon orary Doctorate from Leeds Metropolitan University in 2009.
